Program Identity & Fit

This is a community-based, University of Minnesota-affiliated family medicine residency in St. Cloud, MN, built on a 30-plus-year partnership with CentraCare, a not-for-profit health system with deep rural reach across central Minnesota. Training spans a comprehensive outpatient family medicine clinic with integrated behavioral health, pharmacy, community paramedicine and medical-legal services, alongside inpatient/OB training at the 489-bed St. Cloud Hospital (Level II trauma, ~3,000 deliveries/year, adult/peds/neonatal ICU) and dedicated rural rotations at surrounding CentraCare sites. The curriculum explicitly prepares graduates for either rural or urban full-spectrum practice, offering named tracks in advanced maternity care, colposcopy, vasectomy, lifestyle medicine (with ACLM board eligibility), and addiction medicine/MAT, plus POCUS and procedural training and VA-based subspecialty rotations. The program's stated aims center on comprehensiveness, rural/underserved responsiveness, health equity, and collaborative team leadership rather than subspecialty research output.
