Program Identity & Fit

This is a community-based, university-affiliated Family Medicine program (University of Chicago partnering with Endeavor Health/NorthShore) built on a "clinic-first," 2x2 outpatient-immersion model at Evanston Hospital's integrated Family Care Center, with no 24-hour call and a hospitalist-supervised inpatient service. The program emphasizes structural competency, advocacy for vulnerable populations, and social determinants of health, offering named tracks (sports medicine, obesity medicine, underserved medicine, geriatrics, integrative medicine) and resident-driven leadership roles (Educational Chair, Inpatient/Outpatient Chief, Recruitment Chair). Scholarly activity is built-in but not investigator-driven: all residents complete a GEMS evidence-synthesis project and QI posters, with an optional two-year Research Track for those wanting deeper clinical research experience; the program also hosts a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship. Graduates pursue fellowships, hospital medicine, and comprehensive outpatient practice, suggesting the program values well-rounded generalists engaged in advocacy, teamwork, and community-oriented primary care rather than bench research or subspecialty-only pathways.
