Program Identity & Fit

This is a dually ACGME/AOA-accredited community-based family medicine program at a small 92-bed hospital in Phillipsburg, NJ, affiliated with four medical schools (Temple/Katz, PCOM, Drexel, Rutgers) and serving as the sole residency presence on its inpatient campus. The training model centers on a patient-centered medical home (Coventry Family Practice, NCQA Level 3), a robust home-visit program for homebound community patients, nursing home coverage, and continuity clinic as a weekly core structure, reflecting a mission explicitly oriented toward Warren County and underserved populations. Research is structurally embedded rather than peripheral: residents complete both a required three-year longitudinal research project and a senior-year quality improvement project, with monthly faculty research meetings, REDCap training, and consistent resident presentations at regional consortia (Rutgers Network, PAFP, Family Medicine Education Consortium). Graduate outcomes are broad rather than singularly focused - office-based practice, hospitalist work, academic medicine, and fellowships (sports medicine, geriatrics) - indicating the program values adaptable generalist competence over a narrow career pipeline, and osteopathic residents are supported with dedicated OMT practice time and dual board-certification eligibility.
