Program Identity & Fit

Saint Agnes is a faith-based, community-based Family Medicine program in Fresno, California, serving the medically underserved, agricultural Central Valley and surrounding rural communities through continuity clinics, a resident-run 24/7 inpatient service, nursing home panels, and a Mobile Health Unit that brings point-of-care ultrasound and primary care to rural patients in partnership with Fresno State's nursing school. The curriculum is organized around declared PGY-2 tracks (Primary Care, Hospital Medicine, Specialty/OB, Global Health), with obstetric training through an OB hospitalist service and pediatric inpatient/ED exposure at Valley Children's Hospital, a major regional referral center. Scholarly activity is required but modest (one QI project plus one additional project, with an annual Research Day) rather than central to the program's identity, and most graduates enter outpatient primary care, hospital medicine, or urgent care, with a minority pursuing fellowships in sports medicine, palliative care, or geriatrics. The program explicitly frames itself around holistic, mission-driven care, whole-person healing, and service to a diverse, underserved regional population.
