Program Identity & Fit

A 2-2-2 rural training program sponsored by Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital, with One Community Health, a migrant community health center, as the family medicine continuity clinic and Providence Milwaukie Family Medicine Residency as its urban sister program. Residents spend the first year in Portland training alongside Milwaukie residents, then move to Hood River, 60 miles east of Portland in the Columbia River Gorge, for the second and third years. Inpatient work centers on Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital with a full emergency department and an obstetrical unit that the program states delivers over 400 babies a year. Residents return to Portland for two- to four-week blocks each year for higher-volume obstetrics, adult medicine and elective rotations.
