Honor Community Health's Family Medicine Residency is Michigan's first Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)-based program, an HRSA Teaching Health Center training physicians explicitly to address primary care shortages in underserved Pontiac and Oakland County. The clinical model is deeply community-integrated, co-locating residents' continuity practice with dental, behavioral health, school-based health centers, homeless outreach, and maternal-child health initiatives rather than centering training around a tertiary hospital. Curriculum structure emphasizes longitudinal continuity through the Family Medicine Center across all three years, broad ambulatory and community medicine exposure, and partnerships with area hospitals and specialty practices for inpatient/procedural rotations. As a newly ACGME-accredited (2023) program built by experienced FQHC and residency leadership, it appears to value residents drawn to mission-driven, whole-person, safety-net care over research output or subspecialty prestige.
