MercyOne Des Moines is a community-based family medicine residency that pairs the personalized feel of a community program with the specialty resources of a tertiary care center, anchored by a continuity clinic partnership with Primary Health Care, an FQHC serving underserved urban populations. The program emphasizes robust obstetrics training with hands-on C-section experience, three months of inpatient pediatrics, point-of-care ultrasound, and a distinct rural health track (HRSA-funded, separately ERAS-coded) at Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, alongside an Osteopathic Recognition pathway with dedicated OMM clinic and osteopathic research opportunities. Research is structured but modest in scope—residents complete quality improvement or IRB projects with a symposium and occasional national presentations—positioning it as a supportive rather than central pursuit.
