Program Identity & Fit

Memorial Health System is a young, community-based family medicine residency (first graduating class 2022) built around a clinic-first model emphasizing continuity patient-provider relationships, outpatient procedural experience, and clinic-based quality improvement work. Distinctively, the program has developed a lifestyle medicine curriculum allowing dual board certification, reflecting a stated institutional commitment to preventive care and chronic disease management over subspecialty or hospital-based orientation. Training occurs across a three-hospital not-for-profit system serving the underserved, rural Mid-Ohio Valley region, with explicit programmatic goals centered on community leadership, health disparities work, and service to southeast Ohio rather than research output or fellowship pipelines. The program values residents committed to long-term outpatient relationship-building, community health engagement, and collaborative, inclusive team culture across DO/MD backgrounds.
