Program Identity & Fit

This is a community-based, unopposed family medicine residency at Reid Health, a 200+ bed regional referral system serving a medically underserved multi-county area spanning Indiana and Ohio, sponsored through the Kansas City University-Graduate Medical Education Consortium in affiliation with Marian University's osteopathic pathway. The unopposed structure gives residents broad hands-on exposure across emergency medicine, cardiovascular care, neurology/stroke, and a full elective menu (interventional radiology, surgical subspecialties, pain management), while a dedicated Family Medicine Center and a longitudinal long-term-care continuity experience at Rosebud Village (following the same patients 24-36 months) anchor the ambulatory training. Research is present through the developing Reid Research Institute but is described as supportive infrastructure rather than a core expectation, and the program explicitly frames its curriculum as flexible enough to produce graduates who go into rural full-spectrum practice, hospitalist work, fellowships, or ambulatory primary care. As a newer program (established 2015) still building its academic identity, it appears to value residents who are adaptable, community-oriented, and willing to help shape a growing teaching system rather than step into an established, highly structured academic machine.
