Program Identity & Fit

Humboldt Park Health is a community-based, safety-net teaching hospital in Chicago whose Family Medicine residency is explicitly built around health equity work in an underserved, largely immigrant and Spanish-speaking neighborhood. The curriculum layers continuity clinic growth across three years with longitudinal TEAM Care rotations for quality improvement, community outreach, and practice management, plus a midyear "Interlude" for procedural skill-building and wellness rather than a formal research block. Career orientation is squarely toward generalist community family practice, with faculty and resident narratives repeatedly emphasizing service to the Humboldt Park community, chronic disease management, obesity/lifestyle medicine, and full-spectrum primary care rather than subspecialty fellowship pipelines. The program values applicants with demonstrated commitment to underserved populations, prior clinical rotation ties to the institution, and a community-oriented, relationship-based approach to patient care.
