Program Identity & Fit

A three-year community-based residency at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, a 304-bed HCA Healthcare hospital in Idaho Falls that serves a catchment spanning eastern Idaho, western Wyoming and southern Montana. The hospital is a Level II trauma center with a Level III neonatal intensive care unit, the region's only pediatric intensive care unit and the state's only burn center, and it also sponsors internal medicine and psychiatry residencies. Continuity clinic runs in all three years at an affiliated community family clinic that the program reports is only minutes from the hospital. Rotations progress from inpatient adult medicine, pediatrics, surgery, psychiatry and night float in the first year to cardiology, emergency medicine and obstetrics and gynecology in the second, then intensive care, geriatrics and behavioral health in the third, with a broad elective list. The program states that protected didactics run one afternoon each week and that certification courses including ACLS, PALS, ALSO and NRP, plus ultrasound instruction and board review resources, are funded.
