Program Identity & Fit

This is a newly accredited, community-based Family Medicine residency (first class 2017) at HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville, affiliated with USF Morsani College of Medicine, explicitly oriented toward training primary care physicians for Florida's underserved and rapidly growing communities. The curriculum emphasizes heavy outpatient continuity through three FMP practice clinics (up to 75% outpatient by PGY3) integrated with a patient-centered medical home model, small-town/community clinical exposure rather than tertiary quaternary complexity, and residents functioning as continuity providers within established local practices from day one. Research is structurally supported (HCA national research coordinators, USF library access, monthly on-site research assistance, research day) but framed as encouraged scholarly activity rather than a defining identity, and the program offers an in-house Geriatric Medicine fellowship pathway plus explicit guidance for fellowship or job placement. The program values residents who can integrate into a small, growing community hospital system, build longitudinal patient relationships, and contribute to shaping a still-developing program culture.
