Program Identity & Fit

This is a university-affiliated, community-based family medicine residency at a 280-bed hospital where it is the sole residency program, giving residents undivided institutional attention and faculty focus. The identity centers on full-spectrum, contextually-minded primary care for vulnerable and underserved populations, evidenced by a longitudinal community health curriculum spanning Say Clinic (Highland Park), Pope Francis Center (Detroit), and the Teen Health Center (River Rouge), integrated behavioral health with on-site PhD psychologists, and OB/maternity training. Research is not emphasized as a program pillar; instead, the program invests in procedural training, tailorable elective tracks (integrative medicine, women's health, wound care, sports medicine), OMT clinic access for DO learners, and international/rural elective options. Graduates are funneled toward community-based full-spectrum primary care practice, with the program valuing residents drawn to population health, social-context-driven care, and team-based, multidisciplinary primary care delivery.
