Program Identity & Fit

This is a university-affiliated, community-based Family Medicine residency sponsored by Atrium Health Navicent The Medical Center in partnership with Mercer University School of Medicine, serving Macon and the broader Middle Georgia/Central Georgia region. Residents train in a purpose-built ambulatory family medicine center with substantial procedural infrastructure (colposcopy, minor surgery, casting, treadmill testing, on-site lab/x-ray) alongside inpatient care at a Level One Trauma Center with high-acuity ICUs and a Level Three neonatal nursery, giving a broad-scope, full-spectrum training experience. Research is available and mentored through faculty-led community health projects (diabetes prevention, childhood obesity, tobacco/alcohol screening, NIH-funded work) but is explicitly optional rather than a program expectation. The program also supports a Geriatrics fellowship pathway and situates itself within a mission-driven health system that emphasizes community health assessments and indigent/charity care across Middle Georgia counties.
