WMed's Medicine-Pediatrics program is a university-affiliated combined residency built on two tertiary teaching hospitals (Beacon Kalamazoo and Bronson Methodist, the latter housing a designated children's hospital with PICU/NICU) that together provide a broad primary-to-tertiary patient base across the economic spectrum. The program's identity centers on integration: a combined Med-Peds clinic co-located with categorical IM and Pediatrics clinics, National Osteopathic Recognition welcoming both MD and DO trainees, and a distinctive global health/tropical medicine track with a certificate pathway and international rotations in Peru, Madagascar, and Liberia alongside domestic rural/migrant-worker clinic experience. Scholarly activity is embedded through quality improvement projects, a faculty-mentored research repository, and required participation in the medical school's Research Day, though the program's stated outcomes emphasize graduates entering competitive subspecialty fellowships (cardiology, pulmonary/critical care, allergy-immunology, infectious disease) as well as primary care, hospital medicine, and global health careers.
