This is an elite academic, quaternary-care Med-Peds program built on the combined strengths of Harvard's MGH Internal Medicine and Pediatrics departments, distinguished by three fully integrated med-peds continuity clinics (MGH Revere, Everett, Back Bay) where residents see adults and children in the same sessions and build true longitudinal panels. The curriculum emphasizes graduated autonomy (12-month intern year, PGY2-4 leadership on services like "the Bigelow," "Senior On," "Ward Teach"), a dedicated Clinic Immersion Rotation, and a Transitional Care ambulatory elective spanning Down Syndrome, CF, and adolescent-to-adult transition clinics. Career outcomes are broad and genuinely bimodal: roughly 45% primary care, 30% subspecialty fellowship (infectious disease leads, reflecting strong global health interest), 20% hospitalist, and 10% global health, with many graduates blending categories (academic hospitalist plus global health, advocacy plus primary care). The program values residents who embrace flexibility across the age spectrum, community-based primary care in underserved settings, global/rural health experiences, and leadership/teaching identity rather than a single fellowship-track trajectory.
