Program Identity & Fit

An unopposed residency administered by the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences, begun in 1975 as the first residency program in the state and accepting 6 residents per year. It is affiliated with Trinity Health, a regional hospital and American College of Surgeons certified Level II trauma center with a catchment area of more than 16 counties in western North Dakota and Montana. Residents care for patients in clinic, hospital, nursing home, assisted living and home settings, and the clinic provides maternity care, endoscopy, colonoscopy, colposcopy, vasectomy and a full range of office-based procedures. Core faculty consist of 6 family physicians and one psychologist supported by more than 100 community faculty, and the program positions itself as training physicians for both urban and rural settings, including practice where specialists and specialized equipment are not immediately available.
