An unopposed community-based program that opened in 2014 at a regional referral center serving a population of more than 500,000, with all subspecialty services, a level II trauma center and a neonatal intensive care unit. Because no other residencies train at Forrest General, the program states residents carry greater responsibility for patient care on every rotation. The continuity clinic sits inside the Hattiesburg Clinic, described as the largest multi-specialty group in Mississippi, and most specialty rotations are taught by its physicians; residents also deliver acute and occupational medicine care for hospital employees. Residents belong to the joint Forrest General and Hattiesburg Clinic Accountable Care Organization, giving population health training with direct economic consequences, and the program reports a 100 percent first-attempt ABFM board passage rate.
