Program Identity & Fit

Saint Agnes is a young, community-based 3-year EM program in Fresno's Central Valley, built around a single high-volume (~90,000 visits/year) community emergency department supplemented by off-site trauma (UCSF Fresno CRMC Level 1) and pediatric (Valley Children's Healthcare) rotations. The curriculum leans procedural and technology-forward, with a resident-accessible resuscitative TEE program, a monthly simulation curriculum with resident simulation-trainer roles, and an EMS/ultrasound block, reflecting a "ready to treat anything" community-generalist ethos rather than a subspecialty-fellowship pipeline. Research is present only as a half-block in PGY3 and an elective/administration structure, and alumni outcomes are dominated by community and regional hospital placements (Dignity Health, Sutter, Providence, Mercy) with only occasional fellowship (critical care) destinations, indicating a program oriented toward producing broadly competent community emergency physicians. The Catholic, mission-driven Trinity Health identity and emphasis on "body, mind, and spirit" care, plus documented global-health elective activity (Mozambique), signal a values-based, service-oriented culture alongside clinical training.
