GW Dermatology is a university-affiliated, academically rigorous program built on a tri-site rotational structure spanning GW Medical Faculty Associates/University Hospital, the DC VA Medical Center, and Children's National Health System, giving residents continuity clinics, inpatient consultation experience, and pediatric exposure across a socially diverse Washington, DC population. The curriculum is dense with subspecialty clinics (Mohs/procedural dermatology, cosmetics, complex pediatric derm, melanoma/pigmented lesion, supportive oncodermatology, rheum-derm, HS, patch testing) and heavy weekly didactics (grand rounds, dermatopathology textbook review, kodachrome sessions) that signal an emphasis on both breadth of clinical exposure and academic depth. Research is formally embedded rather than optional: every resident must complete a mentored project culminating in a submitted manuscript, and the department runs active investigator-initiated and industry clinical trials in psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and autoimmune dermatology alongside a multi-institutional translational research collaboration.
