Program Identity & Fit

This is a small, four-year osteopathic-recognition dermatology program (transitional year at Corewell Health Dearborn, then three years at Farmington Hills) tracing its lineage to the first AOA-approved osteopathic dermatology residency, and it remains one of the few dermatology programs nationally to maintain Osteopathic Recognition with OMT/OPP formally woven into training. Clinical exposure spans general, complex medical, cosmetic, and surgical dermatology, with inpatient consult experience at two Corewell hospitals, an independent continuity clinic for longitudinal autonomy, and elective rotations in Mohs, dermatopathology, pediatric dermatology, and plastic surgery. The program emphasizes community-facing service (laser tattoo removal clinic, homeless street clinic, optional international mission trips) and teaching responsibilities toward students and interns, reflecting a values orientation toward holistic, whole-person osteopathic care and community engagement rather than a research-driven identity. It appears to prize candidates who embrace osteopathic philosophy, demonstrate longstanding commitment to the specialty, and are comfortable functioning with graduated autonomy in a moderate-sized, faculty-taught community academic environment.
